Today marks the second installment of another archive gem from the 'vault' as I re-release a special 'Character Study' in depth feature of Robert Fripp & King Crimson from a program which originally aired on August 23, 2013 on SFCR (San Francisco Community Radio). Below are the original discription of the shows contents.
Today on the latest installment of TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (#27) it’s time for the monthly in depth feature, “Character Study,” this month focusing on legendary guitarist ROBERT FRIPP and his band KING CRIMSON. After fifty plus hours of research and post production, I’ve finally completed this extensive look at Robert Fripp’s career within the band KING CRIMSON and also focusing on his many side projects that have encompassed over four decades at the forefront of modern rock.
Included in the program today will be many “live” tidbits of KING CRIMSON including a 1969 performance of the original band doing “In the Court of the Crimson King” recorded at Fillmore West in San Francisco in December 1969, a 1974 “live” recording of “Lark’s Tongue in Aspic (Part 1),” plus notes on FRIPP’S revolutionary use of his “Frippertronic’s” and “Soundscapes” ambient playback systems, his work at “Guitar Craft” teaching new playing techniques, and his work as a producer and guitarist on various other projects (including the League of Gentlemen, Sylvian/Fripp band, Sunday All Over the World band, Peter Gabriel, and lots more.) It was no little task to whittle down all of this into a two hour program today as Fripp has appeared in over 700 recordings.
In the first hour you’ll also hear music from KIM FOWLEY, BOMBINO, THE ROLLING STONES, MILES DAVIS, YO LA TENGO, and even some BOB HOPE & BING CROSBY. Then stick around for the main course; Robert Fripp and King Crimson.
