Inspiration

Mixing Trance records is both easier and more difficult than Chillout. It’s easier because there are only a number of common ways you can mix two Trance tracks, including outro/intro, outro/breakdown, breakdown/intro and breakdown/breakdown. It doesn’t need as much creativity as with the Chillout genre. It’s also easier because most of the popular Trance records have been remixed a number of times and as a DJ you use the remix that works best for you or you can even mix and match two or more remixes to create the perfect blend (which I’ve done on a number of occasions).

However, the difficulty with Trance mixes lies in the mastering process and making sure your mix sounds punchy and just loud enough. The set of skills needed for that is not in every aspiring DJ bag of self-taught skills and I’ve definitely had to go out of my way to learn a lot of those along the way, including basic mastering techniques.

Regardless, the end result is always worth it. The mixes I create in the Trance Nchantment series are the ones I’m proud of the most and I enjoy listening to them over and over again. I hope you do too.
