Chapter 4 begins a new section in the book of Hosea. Then next few chapters will be tough as God brings a charge against His people. Their transgression, their idolatry has gone on far too long. A charge will now be brought against them.
Several things that stand out in this chapter. First, the people would be destroyed for a lack of knowledge. This was a deliberate lack of knowledge since we also read that they had rejected knowledge. God's word was available to them. God's prophets had been sent to them and yet they rejected all the knowledge that God graciously provided for them.
Finally, as result of rejecting the word of God, the people were living in disobedience to God's word. With disobedience comes severe consequences.
May we all hear God's word, know God's word and live in obedience to God's word regardless of cost or consequence.
