On July 21, 2021 Andy Williams Jr. filed suit [against The United States Government] in the Northern District of Illinois, himself as claimant, representing a class composed of Aboriginal, Indigenous, and African people who are imprisoned, and subjected to forced labor. He courageously challenged the status quo that revolved around the prison-labor exception to the Thirteenth Amendment's prohibition of slavery, a provision he argued violated not only the antislavery principle in Section one of the Thirteenth Amendment, but also the First, Fifth, Eighth, and Fourteenth Amendments. Williams passion for justice is fueled by his life experience. His brother died from an opioid overdose in 2018. His childhood friend was the shooter in the 2019 mass shooting in his Aurora, Illinois at Henry Pratt. Williams campaign represents a movement that seeks to bring the government back to its roots, serving as a protector of our unalienable rights.
