Let’s talk about adulting— actual adulting. Not just paying bills or keeping a houseplant alive, but the kind that involves emotional maturity, healthy boundaries, and conscious self-leadership. Because let’s be honest, most of us weren’t taught how to be fully functioning adults… and it shows. Joining us is Michelle Chalfant , licensed therapist turned holistic life coach, creator of The Adult Chair® model, and author of the new book The Adult Chair: Get Unstuck, Claim Your Power, and Transform Your Life . With millions reached through her podcast, coaching programs, and retreats, she’s here to walk us through the five pillars of being a healthy, grounded adult. Here’s the truth: being an adult isn’t about checking boxes or pretending you’re fine. It’s about owning your truth. Feeling your feelings. Practicing compassion without letting yourself off the hook. It’s about setting firm boundaries—with no need for justification—and recognizing that your triggers are not flaws, they’re clues. None of us were handed a guidebook for how to grow up emotionally. We inherited patterns from people who were figuring it out as they went. But what Michelle shares today is empowering: it’s never too late to unlearn what no longer serves you and become the adult you were meant to be. Whether you’re starting this work or knee-deep in your personal development era, this episode will meet you where you are—and help you move forward with clarity, self-trust, and strength. What makes for great design? How do we improve the design we implement to make better products? Listen in on Episode 164 of The UPStarts Podcast, where Zain Raza interviews design expert and intrapreneurial executive Ali Hussain. Mr. Hussain was an engineer at AOL during the early 2000s, a key moment in history where web development was handled like the Wild West - no systems, no managers, and most of all no context for the end user. This experience, as well as Hussain's connection to several intellectuals and authors, led to his modern-day approach to design. Today, Hussain comes to the show to explain why as designers we need to have context for who we're building for, and how creating solid processes around that vision boosts that enormously. Bonus: stick around to the end of the episode to hear Hussain's thoughts on the future of design, as I ask him how the rise of IoT (and voice services in particular) will both borrow from, and change, the core beliefs around design that have so far helped developers build for the Web 2.0 landscape. I found this a particularly insightful conversation to record, not least of all because Mr. Hussain now has always two decades of experience working in the tech business. Now a VP and Head of Design and UX at American Specialty Health, Hussain is a practitioner who actually deals with these issues on a regular basis. How do we connect to our users? Only time will tell but if you're like me, you believe can always learn how best to build for future from studying the lessons of what worked in the past. Enjoy, and share this episode with someone who needs to hear advice on designing great products! **************CONNECT WITH ALI HUSSAIN***************** https://www.linkedin.com/in/alishussain/ ****CONNECT WITH ZAIN RAZA:******** Twitter: @ZainRaz14 Instagram: zraza_theupstart Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/zain-raza-989817143/ --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/upstarts/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/upstarts/support
