Obeying God's commands is a fundamental aspect of our faith, and it often requires a humble heart. Our springboard for today’s discussion is: Micah 6:8 - "He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."

God’s requirements are simple yet profound: act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with Him. Walking humbly with God means we recognize His sovereignty and submit to His will, even when it challenges our desires or understanding.

Humility is essential in our obedience to God. When we humble ourselves, we acknowledge that God's ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts higher than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:9). This attitude allows us to trust Him completely and follow His commands faithfully.

Testimonies of Humble Obedience

1. Testimony of Abraham’s Obedience

Abraham's story is a powerful example of humble obedience. In Genesis 12, God called Abraham to leave his homeland and go to a place that He would show him. Abraham obeyed without hesitation, leaving everything familiar behind. His humility and faith in God’s promise led to him becoming the father of many nations. Abraham's willingness to trust and obey God, even when the path was unclear, shows the profound impact of humble obedience.

2. Testimony of Mary’s Submission

Mary, the mother of Jesus, demonstrated remarkable humility and obedience. In Luke 1:38, when the angel Gabriel announced that she would conceive and bear the Son of God, Mary responded, "I am the Lord’s servant. May your word to me be fulfilled." Regularly examine your heart and motives. Ask God to reveal areas of pride and self-reliance. Psalm 139:23-24 says, "Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." Being aware of our weaknesses and asking for God’s help in overcoming them is a crucial step in cultivating humility.

3. Submit to God’s Word and Will

Immerse yourself in Scripture and be willing to submit to God’s commands, even when they challenge your comfort or understanding. James 4:7 encourages us, "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." Obedience to God’s Word requires humility, as we surrender our own will to embrace His perfect will for our lives.
