In episode 28 of The One Fab Day Wedding Podcast, we're tackling an element of wedding planning that's pretty elusive - making your wedding unique. We're the first to admit that this is a confusing concept. After all, if you Google "unique wedding ideas", you're going to end up with a list of suggestions that are quite the opposite! But in reality, couples often find inspiration for their own personal touches by hearing about other weddings. Making your wedding unique is also about thinking outside the box, which is why we invited Aoife McElwain, the woman behind party phenomenon Singalong Social and author of the book Slow at Work, to share some cool details from her own wedding!

Episode Breakdown: How to Make your Wedding Unique

Wedding tip: Claire's nugget of wisdom this week is to make a plan for which friends, family members, and/or wedding party members should get buttonholes and corsages.

Main topic: Today's main topic is making your wedding unique, but we don't mean exchanging vows during a bungee jump or hosting an underwater reception! We're talking about the sweet details and personal touches that make a wedding a true reflection of your personality. Think giving out little pots of your Granny's jam as wedding favours, or ditching the speeches for a table quiz! To kick off the conversation, we spoke to master party-thrower Aoife McElwain, who is best known as founder of Sing Along Social and author of the book Slow at Work. We hit on some really fun, unique wedding ideas over the course of this chat, so we hope you enjoy!

Wedding dilemma: A listener writes, “How do I put a disclaimer on the invite that basically says there’s no pressure to come? How do I word this? Our wedding is on the Aran Islands so it may well require people taking Friday and Monday off work, as the wedding is Saturday, and the first ferry doesn’t leave a lot of time to get ready. I absolutely want everyone to come, and friends in Australia have already booked flights home as soon as we set the date, but I want to acknowledge that it’s far and awkward and that we won’t be annoyed if people can’t come.” Our advice this week includes a few handy suggestions for how to word the wedding invitations.

Something to do when you're not planning your wedding: In this episode, Claire's recommending a spot of DIY to take your mind off the spreadsheets and supplier emails.
