September is prostate and thyroid cancer awareness month, and many people have been touched by them. In today’s episode, Orlando and Julian have a “candid conversation” with Suzanne Schlernitzauer and Michael Crosby who are advocates for prostate cancer awareness.

Suzanne’s brother, Terry, passed away from this disease two years ago and Micheal is, currently, a patient of it. They will talk to us about their work with such organizations as Zero – The end of prostate cancer and Vetsprostate.org of which Mike is the founder and CEO. Orlando and Julian will also talk more openly about their experiences with cancer, Orlando with thyroid, and Julian with colon. They talk about the trend of men just not wanting to know and how we need to end this because our machismo is killing us… LITERALLY!

We will share resources where people can seek out more information and receive support. Mike also gives some staggering numbers of misdiagnosis amongst veterans and current service members. ZERO Veterans Program

There’s a new chapter for Veterans in the fight against prostate cancer. Veterans are a high-risk population for prostate cancer, with an incidence rate that is twice that of the general population. ZERO and Veterans Prostate Cancer Awareness have united to bring VETERANS the Veteran community the resources, tools, and education needed to fight and prevent the disease. This partnership will address the critical needs of Veterans who are facing prostate cancer.

Caregiver Connector

The Caregiver Connector Program is a peer-to-peer support program for those currently caring for men with prostate cancer as well as those who have lost their loved ones due to the disease. The Caregiver Connector Program pairs caregivers with those who have been in the same or similar position. ZERO’s volunteer Caregiver Mentors have cared for their brothers, fathers, husbands, sons, partners, grandfathers, friends, and neighbors and are trained to support others by offering their experience and insights.
