Today, on International Women's day, and every day, the best thing we can do as women is to help other women. Teach them, mentor them, guide them, learn from them, and listen to them. I am only where I am today because of other amazing women. My mom, step-mom, and grandmothers, my great grandmothers, sister, and girlfriends. Women I met in the Navy and so many amazing women in my post-Navy life are role models and mentors to me now. I'm thankful for all the women who made me who I am and for all the women who paved the way to all my generation to achieve the success we have. The best way to repay them is for me, and for you, to be the best we can every day, to use our gifts, to shine our light brighter than any generation before us, and then to mentor the next generation as they did for us.

I chose a photo of a "dust bowl" era mother for today's cover. We so often think of those who came before us as "Rosie the Riveter" or the women of the Suffrage movement. They were very important. The lineage of strong women in my family flows straight through the dust bowl. My great grandmother and grandmother lived in southern Colorado, near Kansas and Oklahoma, during this era and worked harder and longer, with great concern for their lives. They struggled in ways we cannot imagine so that I can be here talking to you today. My work ethic comes from them, but I know NOTHING of the struggles they lived through. Thank you Granny and Grandma - you created a better world for us all. Love, Tami
