79 - It's The Challange with Myles Powell of 8 Myles

In this week's episode we have Myles Powell, Founder and CEO of 8 Myles in Washington, DC! They make the best mac n' cheese, and can be found at any of your local Target's and other stores in the DMV! Myles grew up in Philadelphia being exposed to entrepreneurship at a young age with the family catering business. He eventually wanted to have his own business one day, he just thought it was going to be more than likely an engineering firm since he received a civil engineering degree from the University of Delaware. While pursuing his full-time engineering career he decided to start cooking in his free time and created a blog with his recipes. He shares how he landed on a national cooking show on the Food Network. Once he returned home from the cooking show he decided to start a business and started making a BBQ sauce on the side which eventually led to him to create the Mac and Cheese as a way to test and taste the sauce, and everyone started raving about the Mac and Cheese and that was the big sign! He started getting the Mac and Cheese into local retail stores, going to store by store and in time a distributor picked them up. He tells the story on how in May of 2021 they finally went into Target and 6 months later he quit his full-time engineering job to focus 100% only on the business. They are now going national and doubling their store count, scaling at a much faster rate! Myles shares how you need cash and grit to succeed in business, especially in a CPG (consumer packaged goods) business. He mentions why you should not settle and to know why you are doing it because you will need to know this when you go through the tough times. We both share the same daily escape, and at the end of the day for him it is about the challenge that keeps him moving forward!
