If you’re not energized by this episode, you’re dead. We manage to get super activist Carlene Pinto to sit down with us despite her busy schedule fighting for immigrant rights and racial justice. Fresh off a victory for one of her people, she comes to us with undocumented student activist Flor Reyes, one of the DREAMERS (she shares her incredible story at 30:00). We share stories about struggling to pass the DREAM act (6:00), being disenfranchised due to possible voter fraud in the Bernie/Hillary primary (9:40), the fear of taking action and of people taking action (17:40), helping recently released prisoners get jobs (46:00), and the desperate measures people take to survive poverty (i.e. HIV bug chasers) (21:50). We also discuss where apathy and distrust of the government and political participation comes from (42.14) and mass incarceration (45:05). Finally we end by answering the question of how the average person can get involved in changing the world. (53:40)
