The War and Treaty’s Michael and Tanya Trotter grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and Washington, DC, respectively, but both have family roots in the South. They also grew up in the musical traditions of their churches – Tanya in the Black Baptist Church and Michael in the Seventh Day Adventist Church – where they learned the power of song to move people. After becoming a father at a very young age, Michael eventually joined the armed forces and served in Iraq and Germany, where he took up songwriting as a way of dealing with his experiences there. Meanwhile Tanya embarked on a singing and acting career after a breakthrough appearance in Sister Act 2 alongside Whoopi Goldberg and Lauryn Hill. Now, after a long and sometimes traumatic journey, Michael and Tanya are married, touring, winning all sorts of awards, and set to release their fifth album together, and their fourth as The War and Treaty. Sid talks to Michael and Tanya about the new record, Plus One , as well as their collaboration with Miranda Lambert, what it was like to record at FAME studios in Muscle Shoals, and how they’re blending country, soul, gospel, and R&B. Den Dortmunder Sorgen widmet sich derweil bekanntermaßen Buchautor Frank Fligge. Zurück aus Doha ziehen Saskia Aleythe (SZ) und Johannes Knuth (SZ) die Bilanz zur Leichtathletik WM. Den aktuellen Stand beim Rugby hat wie gewohnt Jan Lüdeke (Magentasport) zur Hand, Christian Schimmel (derdraft.de) kümmert sich im Gespräch mit Nicolas Martin (GFL-TV) um den deutschen und den internationalen Football. An welche Rennstrecke es Eddie Mielke (ran) am kommenden Wochenende treibt? Es ist jene, die als Zweitwohnsitz von Stefan Heinrich (Motorsport TV) gilt. Der große Ernst Hausleitner (ORF) sitzt dagegen bereits im Zug nach Japan. Über die Ökobilanz dieser Woche wollen wir in unserer kleinen, sympathischen Familienshow nicht reden. Aber der Fußballteil, den Jonas Friedrich (Sky) gemeinsam mit Philipp Schneider (SZ) und Andreas Renner (DAZN) bestreitet, wird schon mal aus Turin moderiert. Nicolas Martin (GFL-TV) wirft dann in Malta für die NFL die Maschinen an, Franz Büchner (DAZN) expertiert. Mit den Gedanken schon Barcelona und also bei der MotoGP ist Edgar Mielke (Sky), für die Historie in der Formel 1 ist Stefan Ehlen (formel1.de) zuständig, und natürlich setzt sich Stefan Heinrich (Motorsport TV) hinters Steuerrad. Ein bisschen Rugby haben wir auch im Programm, Simon Jung (totalrugby.de) bringt uns auf den neuesten Stand. Auf Rentierjagd nach Levi begeben wir uns mit Lukas Zahrer (derstandard.at) und Korbinian Eisenberger (SZ), auf den Trip down Memory Lane nehmen uns Jürgen Schmieder (SZ) und Heiko Oldörp (NDR) mit.
