The Medical Retention Determination Point (MRDP) is the point that must be reached before a service member is referred into the Integrated Disability Evaluation System (IDES) program. It serves as the gateway to determining if a medical condition is severe enough to potentially render the member unfit for continued military service.
At the MRDP, medical authorities assess if the service member's condition meets retention standards set by their branch of service. If the condition does not meet retention standards, meaning it prevents full duty performance, then the member is referred to the IDES process for a full medical evaluation board.
However, if at the MRDP it is determined the condition is not severe enough to make the member unfit, then they are not entered into the IDES disability evaluation system.
Are you confused, stuck and feeling lost about the med board process?
I've made a free MEB resource organizer to help you learn about the med board journey. The organizer gives you an easy way to keep track of your forms and medical records. Having your records organized makes it simpler to prove your health issues are connected to your military service. When you can clearly show this connection, you have a better chance of getting a positive result from your med board. The program guides you step-by-step through properly preparing your important documents. This increases your odds of receiving the disability ratings you deserve.
