Nick Palmarini, the director of the UK National Innovation Center for Ageing, joins Brian for a discussion on the importance of innovation in addressing the challenges of aging. He emphasizes the need to focus on our long term quality of life as measured by overall health rather than simply number of years lived. If we live to be 100, but that last 40 years were spent in poor health, with limited monbility and independence, can we really call that a success as a society?

In this episode, Brian and Nic discuss all aspect of aging including the intersection of global aging trends and external factors like economics, politics, infrastructure and even climate change. Nic also highlights the discrimination faced by older adults in Western socieities and the importance of mentorship and knowledge transfer between generations. He explores the role of technology in promoting healthy aging and the impact of loneliness and isolation on public health. Finally, he discusses the economic implications of aging and identifies key trends and leading countries in the field.
