Gene Baur is the founder of Farm Sanctuary, a place of rescue, refuge, and adoption for hundreds of farm animals each year. Farm Sanctuary shelters enable visitors to connect with farm animals as emotional, intelligent individuals. Gene has also led campaigns to change laws about animal treatment and taken undercover photographs of farms, stockyards, and slaughterhouses, documenting deplorable conditions. His pictures and videos exposing factory farming cruelties have aired nationally and internationally, educating millions about the plight of modern farm animals, and his rescue work inspired an international farm sanctuary movement. Once called “the conscience of the food movement” by Time magazine, Gene walks the walk and talks the talk when it comes to food and animal rights. Jay and Gene discuss the political and cultural steps that will bring about the end of factory farming and a healthier approach to animals and food. Being a parent, trying to become one, choosing not to be, gaining a family or losing one, having or being mums or dads or not shapes our lives in so many ways. In this podcast we explore how parenting – both being one or not or having them near or far- influences your perspective. And how in the run up to an election here in the UK it influences your politics. In the Mummafesto, Labour and Cooperative MP for Walthamstow, Stella Creasy will speak to campaigners, academics and changemakers - people whose work is making our country a better place to be in. They'll explore how parenting has influenced their work and their mission - the motivations, the fears, the tears and the chaos as well as tiredness, and what they would like to put in their 'Mummafesto' for the General Election. Promoted by Tim Dexter on behalf of Stella Creasy, both at 23 Orford Road E17 9NL.
