"God Killed My Old Man" is a brand new series by Duane Sheriff that explores our identification with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. This understanding is crucial for Christians to walk in the power of the gospel and overcome sin.
Duane shares a personal experience of an open vision of Jesus on the cross. In this vision, he saw himself united with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. This revelation led him to search the Scriptures and discover the truth about our identity in Christ.
There is a difference between the "old man" in Adam, who has a sinful nature, and the "new man" in Christ, who is righteous and holy. God has crucified our old man with Christ, as stated in Romans 6:6: "Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin."
Even though God has killed the old man, we still need to change our behavior and mindset. This transformation requires us to renew our minds, as mentioned in Ephesians 4:22-24: "You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness." Understanding and embracing our new identity in Christ empowers Christians to overcome sin and live a renewed life.
