What is it about the mind that causes so much suffering?

The truth is, the mind itself is not the problem. Our mind is programmed to do one job and one job only - survive and be alert to potential threats. So, in an effort to protect us from harm, the brain causes us harm by ruminating about past trauma and worrying about the future.
