Janelle Monáe rings in to talk with Kyle Meredith about her latest album, The Age of Pleasure. The musician/actress tells us the importance of the opening line “I’m not the same” and how it speaks for the LP, having Grace Jones and Sister Nancy as guests, the inspiration she took from Busby Berkley, and the importance of featuring Brown and Black people on 8mm and 16mm film. Monáe also tells us about her next role starring as Josephine Baker in A24’s upcoming De La Resistance during a time when the artist was a spy.
