The author discusses how Kobe was much different when he first entered the league than he was later in life. Pearlman shares stunning Kobe stories from Shaq, JR Rider, and Jerry Stackhouse. He details Kobe's complicated relationships with his teammates, his family, and the city of Philadelphia. Pearlman explains how many of the interview subjects would not have been as candid and forthcoming as they were if those interviews were conducted after Kobe had died. He also opens up about the unique position he's in now as he promotes the book and navigates releasing excerpts about such a beloved figure.
