The Day of Atonement

After describing what they were to do with the scapegoat, God finally revealed when they were to do these things, on the tenth day of the seventh month. He will later tell them the first of the month will be the feast of trumpets and the fifteenth will start the Feast of Booths. While the other two are feasts, this day was a day appointed for the Israelites to afflict their souls. It is a sabbath of solemn rest. While all the other days that God commands them to celebrate is about feasting, this is the one day about them mourning over their sin and their need for it to be dealt with so they are not separate from God.
