Welcome to another episode of Rebuilding The Village with your host, Michael Read. In this episode, Phyllis Levitt, a psychotherapist and author, shares her personal healing journey and discusses the importance of addressing collective mental health, the impact of intergenerational trauma, the need for community support, and the societal factors contributing to disconnection and mental health challenges.
The conversation explores societal issues like the emphasis on appearance, addiction, technology's influence on family dynamics, and the detrimental effects of limbic capitalism, highlighting the significance of empathy, support systems, and healthy family dynamics for emotional and mental well-being.
Phyllis is a psychotherapist and author with over 30 years of experience in private practice, specializing in abuse and dysfunctional family dynamics. After earning her Master's in Psychology and Counseling from Antioch University in 1989, she co-directed a family-based sexual abuse treatment program in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Her latest book, America in Therapy: A New Approach to Hope and Healing for a Nation in Crisis, aims to address the nation's mental health crisis by applying lessons learned from healing family violence. Phyllis has also published two books chronicling her personal healing journey and now focuses on writing and speaking from her home in Taos, NM, where she lives with her husband.
