Sandra Pruitt exemplifies a servant leader heart. As a retired nurse works tirelessly with her Board of volunteer members to manage the Salvation Army, a non profit organization that serves the of citizens of Dyer County. The Salvation Army runs a number of local social service programs such as the soup kitchen; the thrift store; and assistance to families in times of crisis.
What is the Salvation Army? It is a charitable organization and evangelical church founded by William and Catherine Booth in the London’s East End in 1865. It spread to the United States 120 years ago and can be found in 130 countries worldwide. “It mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination” You can read more about the “Army of Compassion” at https://www.salvationarmy.org/
Ms Sandra shares that the nonprofit this year is challenged with serving an ever increasing list of families in need while resources and contributions have dwindled. As we head into the festive season we would like to highlight a few but meaningful ways you can contribute to the legacy of this ministry.
- Christmas Toy Drive for children from infants to age 14. Toys can be dropped off at through December 12 at the Salvation Army at 318 West Market, Dyersburg, TN on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8am to noon.
- Ms Sandra would like to appeal to members of the community that are able to volunteer as bellringers for their only fundraising campaign. These funds are used to keep the kitchen going.
