In this "Peer Review Pearls" Bonus Episode of the PRS Journal Club Podcast, Dr. Kevin Chung discusses the importance of peer review, his initial journey into reviewing for PRS prior to his current role as Editor-in-Chief, and pearls on providing the most effective reviews possible that help to push research in our field forward. This conversation is full of insights not only into the value that peer review has to the Journal and to our field at large, but it also delves into how being a peer reviewer can improve one's own writing, knowledge, and critical scientific thought process.

Special guest, Dr. Kevin Chung, is the Editor-in-Chief of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal and the chief of Hand Surgery at the University of Michigan. Dr. Chung completed his general surgery training at the University of Texas in San Antonio and his plastic surgery training at the University of Michigan, followed by a hand surgery fellowship at the Curtis National Hand Center in Baltimore, Maryland. He was a prior President of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, a prior Plastic Surgery Foundation President, and a prior director of the American Board of Plastic Surgery, among many other impressive committee appointments and leadership positions. He has published over 850 peer reviewed papers and over 550 book chapters in addition to being the editor of many textbooks that trainees and young plastic surgeons use very regularly. He has also maintained continuous NIH funding for over 20 years studying a variety of impactful topics including outcomes in hand surgery. And this is all only a very small insight into Dr. Chung’s vast and impactful accomplishments in plastic surgery, which serve as an inspiration to trainees and young plastic surgeons who strive for the excellence that Dr. Chung has achieved.
