Chef Shuai Wang was the runner-up on the 22nd season of Bravo’s Top Chef and is the force behind two standout restaurants in Charleston, South Carolina—Jackrabbit Filly and King BBQ—where he brings together the flavors of his childhood in Beijing and the spirit of the South in some pretty unforgettable ways. He grew up just a short walk from Tiananmen Square, in a tiny home with no electricity or running water, where his grandmother often cooked over charcoal. Later, in Queens, New York, his mom taught herself to cook—her first dishes were a little salty, but they were always made with love. And somewhere along the way, Shuai learned that cooking wasn’t just about food—it was about taking care of people. After years working in New York kitchens, he made his way to Charleston and started building something that feels entirely his own. Today, we’re talking about how all those experiences come together on the plate, the family stories behind his cooking, and what it’s been like to share that journey on national TV. "Meschery was born as Tomislav Nikolayevich Meshcheryakov in Harbin, Manchukuo. His parents were Russian immigrants who fled from the October Revolution in 1917. The Meschery family was later relocated to a Japanese internment camp near Tokyo during World War II. After the war, Meschery and his parents emigrated to the United States. It was also in this phase of his life where his father renamed the family "Meschery" due to the anti-Communist/anti-Soviet Red Scare under Joseph McCarthy, and Tomislav Nikolayevich was renamed Thomas Nicholas, which later was abbreviated to Tom. Living in San Francisco, California, Meschery attended Lowell High School. After graduating in 1957, he went to Saint Mary's College of California in Moraga. Meschery helped Saint Mary's reach the NCAA Tournament's Elite Eight in 1959. Two years later, he was chosen as a First Team All-American, and was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Year. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1961." -Wikipedia…

August 12, 2017 9AM - 3PM 4610 X St, Sacramento, CA The 2nd Annual Sacramento Black Women’s Health & Wellness Conference (SBWHWC) will commence on Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 9am – 3pm at the University of California, Davis-Education Building, [address: 4610 X Street, Sacramento, CA 95817]. Our motto is “A Healthier You! A Healthier Me! A Healthier We!” The purpose of this conference is to focus on reducing health disparities that disproportionately affect Black women by raising awareness about mental and physical health. The conference will educate attendees about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Last year’s conference was an enormous success! There were 125 women in attendance. Each woman was provided the space to engage with one another, as well as community health services. They were provided with amazing resources from our vendors and inspired by a keynote address from Alondra Thompson. Participants were also extremely engaged in our interactive health workshops and learned about the importance of prioritizing their mental health. The feedback was overwhelming and we look forward to providing that same positive energy to this year’s SBWHWC! This year’s conference will be titled “Healing Invisible Scars” and we will focus on overcoming trauma, relationship dynamics, cardiovascular disease prevention, and overall the mental, spiritual, and physical protection of your heart. We aim to address these specific health disparities and engage a community to reach towards prevention. The SBWHWC will provide attendees with a dynamic keynote speaker, a thought provoking panel discussion, informative workshops, an energizing physical activity to promote heart health, and a nutritious breakfast & lunch.…
