National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed by Rasheed Oluwa, for The Poughkeepsie Journal, in Poughkeepsie, New York, on April 16, 2003, for an article published on April 28, 2003, titled, "In marriage, three's a crowd -- and a crime." That article was written for a "Crime Beat" section of the newspaper, regarding a local story of a man (who had not yet divorced one wife before marrying another) who had been charged with bigamy in New York. In this educational interview, Mark Henkel defined bigamy (as a a legal term for all "Secondary" marriages under law) vs. polygamy, secret or "dishonest bigamy" (unconsented fraud) vs. "honest polygamy" (consented choice), Christian Polygamy vs. Mormon Polygamy, the deep pschyological challenge for people when they first learn about unrelated consenting adult polygamy, how people often commit acts of "insanity to retain their sanity" as illustrated via a lesson-example from George Orwell's book, "1984", how normal polygamists always and adamantly opposed the criminals of Tom Green and the kidnappers of Elizabeth Smart in Utah, how the media make money by only reporting sensationalism and not the regular stories of normal polygamists not committing crimes, and many more argumentations too. (For historical reference, this interview took place before the Lawrence v. Texas decision by the US Supreme Court, later that year, on June 26, 2003.) As this interview was so comprehensive, the reporter himself even responded a number of separate times, by saying, "Cool!"
