Do different cultures live in a Babylonian confusion of languages? They certainly don't have to, says Michael Hampe, explaining the borrowings that the METIS portal for intercultural wisdom literature and wisdom practices has made from Nelson Goodman's Ways of Worldmaking.
Following Goodman, METIS is intended to help people switch back and forth between the wisdom traditions of different cultures. To do this, one must look at how different traditions have responded to certain basic human experiences. For example, to love, the death of fellow human beings, or hope. The reactions to these are different but not hermetically sealed and only accessible to initiates.

Leben verschiedene Kulturen in einer babylonischen Sprachverwirrung? Das müssen sie jedenfalls nicht, sagt Michael Hampe und erläutert die Anleihen, die das METIS-Portal für interkulturelle Weisheitsliteratur und Weisheitspraktiken bei Nelson Goodmans Ways of Worldmaking gemacht hat.
Goodman folgend, soll das METIS-Portal dabei helfen zwischen den Weisheitstraditionen unterschiedlicher Kulturen hin und her zu wechseln. Dazu muss man sich ansehen, wie verschieden Traditionen auf bestimmte menschliche Grunderfahrungen reagiert haben. So z.B. auf die Liebe, den Tod von Mitmenschen oder die Hoffnung. Die Reaktionen darauf sind unterschiedlich aber nicht hermetisch verschlossen und nur Eingeweihten zugänglich.
