Breathe a sigh of relief. It appears college football expansion and realignment talk can simmer down through the 2024 and 2025 seasons. Why? Because ACC schools, in particular, Florida State and Clemson who are suing to get out of the ACC and its horrible media rights deal, had until August 15th, 2024 to announce if they would defect the conference in time for the 2025 college football season. It is our opinion that a few ACC schools would find it mutually beneficial to land in the Big Ten.

FUTURE BIG TEN TEAMS

Moving forward there are a couple of dates to look at regarding this issue. ESPN can look at and reopen the ACC media rights deal in February of 2025. We weigh the pros and cons of such a move by the network. And now, August 15th, 2025 becomes the new ACC departure deadline for the 2026 college football season. In the mean time we will keep an eye on current mediation and possible settlement talks coming out of the multiple ongoing lawsuits between FSU, Clemson and the ACC.

THERE IS ALWAYS NOTRE DAME

And there is always Notre Dame, right? They can join the Big Ten at anytime and they do not have a conference to answer to. We contend they will have to give up their independence and join a conference once revenue sharing kicks in to the tune of 22 million dollars a year for the next ten years.

Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes have announced their starting quarterback for the 2024 college football season. Now we wait and see who the starter will be at rival Michigan.

Plus, Northwestern has a new naming rights deal for its temporary, lakeside, on-campus football stadium while it awaits its new $800 million dollar stadium to be built in time for the 2026 college football season. Northwestern will play at least one football game at Wrigley Field when they host Ohio State for Homecoming.

Speaking of Wrigley Field, the Big Ten and the Cubs announced their will be a series of men's and one women's hockey games outdoors at Wrigley Field in January. It will be dubbed, The Frozen Confines: Big Ten Hockey Series. Tune in here for the details.
