Five Freedoms Christ brings to your life.
1. Jesus Christ has set us free from the destructive opinions of others.
Acts 5:29 (ESV)But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men.
1 Thessalonians 4:1 (NLT) Finally, dear brothers and sisters, we urge you in the name of the Lord Jesus to live in a way that pleases God, as we have taught you. You live this way already, and we encourage you to do so even more.
Galatians 1:10 (NLT)Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.
2. Jesus has set us free from the terror of worldly fear.
Luke 2:10 (KJV) And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
1 John 4:18 (NLT) Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.
2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT) For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
3. Jesus has set us free from the legalism of the law.
Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
Colossians 2:16–17 (NLT) So don’t let anyone condemn you for what you eat or drink, or for not celebrating certain holy days or new moon ceremonies or Sabbaths. For these rules are only shadows of the reality yet to come. And Christ himself is that reality.
Gal 5:22,23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
4. Jesus has set us free from the negativity that grips the world.
Philippians 2:14–15 (ESV) Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world.
Ephesians 4:29 (ESV)Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.
Proverbs 4:23 (NLT)Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
5. Jesus has set us free from guilt and shame that keep us from moving Godward.
Hebrews 8:12 (ESV)For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.”
Ephesians 1:7 (ESV)In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.
2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV)Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
