"People are too quick to pass judgement and too slow to self reflect" as were the words of Mira Filzah in her Instagram post that sparked the heated controversy amongst Malaysians on Twitter. Ironically, the same words can be used to describe the backlash that the Indian community had received from Mira's followers upon the mention of cultural appropriation. Therefore, we are obliged to clarify the true meaning of cultural appropriation and discuss the other aspects of racism in this country.
