There are lots of different internet marketing strategies that you can use. This audio explores the ones that are most likely to be successful for most people. It's also available in written format on my blog: http://trevordumbleton.com/successful-internet-marketing-strategies/
Having an internet marketing plan is a good way forward. Even if you deviate from your plan, it's a lot better than not knowing what you're going to do or where you're headed. http://trevordumbleton.com/create-internet-marketing-plan/
We're creatures of habit. Otherwise we'd be disorganised and get even less done. Tapping into people's habits can be an easy way to make more sales. Stores do this all the time: they know we give more gifts at Christmas, that kind of thing. Take a moment to think about how you can tap into the habits of your audience so that they just tick a box in their mind and buy more things from you!…
The wisdom of crowds is familiar if you've ever seen someone ask the audience on Who Wants to be a Millionaire. At the lower question levels, most of the audience almost always gets the answer correct. The same goes for your internet marketing. Go with the crowds - don't try to be a loner on a site that you like but no-one else uses. Sure, you could be a big fish in a small pond but if there's no-one else there, it's pointless. And with your website, do the same. Don't try to make a new interface just because you or your designer think it's cool. If it's not what people are expecting, chances are they won't hang around long enough to explore your site. It sounds boring but it's actually common sense and will help you and save you a lot of wasted effort.…
Ready, fire, aim is a phrase I first came across in about 1996 and it probably wasn't original at that stage. It applies to lots of things in life and especially to your internet marketing. You can't be a perfectionist - because nothing is ever perfect and if you take the perfectionist approach, you'll never make anything live on the web. Instead, take a "good enough is good enough" approach (that's the get ready part), then put it up on your website or wherever (fire), then tweak it based on results (aim). Simple? Yes. Effective? Yes. This works. It's how some of the biggest companies in the world work - think Microsoft, who've been improving Windows since 1985 and still haven't got it totally right but have made a decent amount of cash in the process. Give the ready, fire, aim approach a trial in your internet marketing or almost any other area of your life!…
Reviews are a good way of generating traffic. Obviously not fake reviews where everything gets 5 stars, even the stuff you'd throw away. Reviews happen everywhere - films, plays, CDs, DVDs, television shows, test drives in cars. Choose a decent WordPress theme and review a few products you already own. Then track down product owners, ask for review copies and post an honest review with your affiliate link leading to the product itself.…
We can't multi-task effectively. Especially not in our businesses. It's too easy to get distracted and have lots of projects laying around unfinished. Sometimes barely even started. http://trevordumbleton.com/concentrating-one-thing-time/ Concentrate on one thing at a time and you'll be more productive and get more done.…
Most of us fall into habits. And that includes our internet marketing. Every now and then, it's worth checking which way your habits are taking you and then checking whether or not those are being helpful. http://trevordumbleton.com/internet-marketing-habits-good-business/
Perpetual motion has been something mankind has always dreamed about. And lots of sales letters promise something close - set up your site once and everything then just "happens", untouched by human hand. But is that true? http://trevordumbleton.com/automating-internet-marketing-work-real-life/ Or is it just as far out of reach as perpetual motion always seems to be?…
Refund requests happen. That's a given. How you deal with them is sometimes down to you, sometimes down to your payment processor. http://trevordumbleton.com/dealing-customer-refunds/
Mixture of thoughts: making sure you compare like with like when you look at things such as sales or visitor stats; when doing the same thing doesn't give the same results.
We all run patterns or habits. Often they're useful - getting up at the right time, eating meals, that kind of thing. But sometimes they're less useful - biting your nails, procrastinating, never quite keeping all your promises. http://trevordumbleton.com/using-pattern-interrupt-reboot-mind-get-unstuck/ Any and all of those patterns can be interrupted if you want to. Sometimes as simply as asking the question "why" enough times until you get to the root cause. Sometimes by going off at a tangent and seeing where it leads. Give it a try on anything that's holding you back or any pattern you're running but would rather not be running.…
Various thoughts on how I'd promote a band. Thanks to Justin Finkelstein (https://soundcloud.com/justin-finkelstein) for suggesting I do this and it's my first podcast recorded on my Android phone - so you can hear footsteps, bikes cycling past and birds dive bombing a pond as well as my voice. I've done a blog post about it as well: http://trevordumbleton.com/podcast-promote-band-online/…
