“It’s not that I resented the business. Maybe I resented the priority that the business took,” explains Ahmed Mahgoub, ex-husband of host Chelsea Stevenson. In this episode of Hennapreneur, Ahmed and Chelsea dive deeper into their discussion on how their marriage was impacted by Chelsea’s business.

For Ahmed, it all comes back to perspective and a gap in communication styles. He was proud to see Chelsea’s business thriving, but felt that at times it took too big a priority over himself and their family. While Chelsea could use the business as an escape from the problems they were facing, Ahmed did not have that opportunity and felt that he was juggling things at home on his own. However, he did not express this to Chelsea during their marriage, because he wanted her to keep doing what was making her happy.

Tune into this week’s episode of Hennapreneur for a continuation of the conversation with host Chelsea Stevenson and special guest Ahmed Mahgoub. They dive even deeper into how certain events changed their individual perspectives, influencing both the business and their marriage.

Quotes

• “Talking about perception, I was at the bottom and I felt at the bottom. It’s like, okay well I need you to tap back in here. But how can I tell you to tap back in here if I’m bringing you back down to the bottom? If that’s your happy place and that’s where you’re peaceful, of course I want you to stay there. I’m not gonna say, ‘Hey come back to reality and hurt with me.’” (13:38-14:06)

• “At that moment, for me it’s saying ‘you failed as a protector of your family.’” (14:56-15:04)

• “Everything else is falling apart and I have two hands. So what ball do I catch as it’s falling down?” (26:26-26:34)

•“It’s not that I resented the business. Maybe I resented the priority that the business took.” (28:15-28:25)
