21 My son, do not lose sight of these—

keep sound wisdom and discretion,

22 and they will be life for your soul

and adornment for your neck.

23 Then you will walk on your way securely,

and your foot will not stumble.

24 If you lie down, you will not be afraid;

when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.

25 Do not be afraid of sudden terror

or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes,

26 for the Lord will be your confidence

and will keep your foot from being caught.

Prov 3:21-26 ESV

THE LORD WILL BE YOUR CONFIDENCE

As a concerned father, he urged his son to keep his instructions in his mind always, that is to be discreet. While wisdom implies the ability to act on knowledge, discretion is the capacity to closely assess something. The Hebrew word translated as "discretion" includes ideas like plotting, planning, and analyzing. A "wise" person knows how to apply their knowledge in a godly way. A "discerning" person is careful and precise in making decisions. Undoubtedly, the world do squeeze us into its mold. However, we must yield our body and mind to the Lord to experience His good, acceptable, and perfect will (Rom 12:1–2).

Consequently, life and security will be experienced upon the wise and discreet.[v.22-23] This is not meant as a universal guarantee. Danger and hardship come even to those who honor God (Prov 3:25). Rather, wisdom literature like this presents general statements. Those who follow God's will, and His plan, have much less risk and greater chance for success than those who rebel and disobey.

Moreover, living wisely leads to sound sleep.[v.24] Since God is our Shepherd, we know he watches over us at night as well as during the day. David explains that "In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety."[ Psalm 4:8] Also, when we honor the Lord and have a clear conscience, we aren't going to be bothered fearing for the consequences of our actions.

‘Sudden terror’ is expected even to the godly.[ 2 Tim 3:12] But we should not fear that which can kill our bodies but not our souls.[Mat 10:28] Our security is in the Lord. He is our confidence. David writes, "The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?"[Psalm 27:1] remember , we are more conquerors through Him who loved us. [Rom 8:37]
