What happens when you mix stop-motion-inspired visuals, card-based combat, and a dice companion that can literally change your fate? You get Lost in Random: The Eternal Die — a bizarre, Tim Burton-esque action-adventure that’s equal parts whimsical and unsettling. In this episode of Game Pass or Pass , we dive into: How the dice-rolling mechanic impacts combat pacing and strategy The blend of real-time action with deck-building and why it’s unlike most Game Pass titles The dark fairy tale world design and how it elevates the game’s atmosphere Whether the story and gameplay loop hold up through the entire journey or start to feel repetitive How “The Eternal Die” expansion adds new layers to the original and if it’s worth revisiting Is Lost in Random: The Eternal Die a hidden gem on Game Pass, or just a stylish curiosity that runs out of luck?…

n this episode of Game Pass or Pass , we put on the gear and hit the streets with two procedural-heavy sims: Firefighting Simulator: The Squad and Police Simulator: Patrol Officers — both from the same publisher, both promising realism and co-op-friendly gameplay. But what we found was... odd. These games aim for authenticity, but somehow miss the mark in both realism and gameplay depth. They're not exactly arcade, not exactly sim — just somewhere in between. We break down: The moment-to-moment gameplay and why it can feel more like following a checklist than fighting fires or solving crimes The inconsistent tone — realistic job settings mixed with strange AI, clunky animations, and mechanics that don’t quite reflect real-world procedures Whether there's enough content and progression to keep players engaged past the first few missions How they compare to other Game Pass co-op or sim-style titles Are these chill, low-stakes co-op options worth a download — or do they fall flat trying to simulate something they don’t fully commit to?…

Rip and tear… but this time with a flail and shield. In this episode of Game Pass or Pass , we break down everything we know so far about DOOM: The Dark Ages , the next brutal entry in id Software’s iconic franchise — and it’s unlike anything we’ve seen before. Set in a dark medieval world, this prequel to 2016’s DOOM reinvents the Slayer as a knight-like figure, battling demonic hordes with brutal melee weapons, heavy siege-inspired firearms, and a rideable cybernetic dragon. We cover: Gameplay evolution: How id is blending high-speed FPS mechanics with grounded, gritty close-quarters combat — and what that means for longtime fans New weapons: Including the shield-saw (think Captain America meets chainsaw) and a bone-shattering flail built for crowd control and brutality Setting and tone: A complete shift from sci-fi Mars to a gothic, hell-torn kingdom that feels part Dark Souls , part DOOM Eternal The Dragon: Yes, the Slayer rides a biomechanical dragon into battle Design philosophy: Why id says this is their most cinematic, story-rich DOOM yet, without sacrificing speed or savagery…

In this episode, we dive into Avowed , the upcoming RPG from Obsidian Entertainment. This game promises to offer a unique experience, combining a structured, linear world with immersive combat and a strong emphasis on story. We explore how the weighty combat mechanics and the game’s more focused, structured world differ from the sprawling open-world experiences many RPGs offer. One of the most exciting aspects of Avowed is its combat. The game leans into a real sense of weight and impact with every attack. The combat feels deliberate and strategic, with each strike and spell having a tangible effect on enemies. There’s a heavy emphasis on tactical decision-making, with real-time action combined with elements that require players to pause and consider their next move. This blend of fluid combat and thoughtful strategy gives the game a sense of depth that is missing in many other RPGs. Unlike many modern RPGs that lean heavily into massive open worlds, Avowed presents a more linear, structured environment. The world is expansive but intentionally designed to guide players through rich environments with a strong narrative backbone. Instead of sprawling expanses with endless side missions, the game offers more focused exploration, which means every area has a purpose in the overall story. This design approach allows for more detailed, handcrafted locations and a deeper, more engaging experience where each moment feels important. Additionally, Avowed is being developed using Unreal Engine 5, which means players can expect stunning visuals and cutting-edge technology. The engine’s capabilities allow for realistic lighting, detailed textures, and a world that feels alive and immersive. With UE5, the game promises to deliver smooth animations, lifelike environments, and impressive effects that will bring the world of Eora to life in ways we've never seen before. If you’re a fan of RPGs with tactical combat, a structured world that doesn’t overwhelm you, and cutting-edge visuals, Avowed could be your next big adventure. One wrong move can cost you, making it feel like solving a puzzle. The game features grid-based combat with strategic positioning, unit customization, and a challenging difficulty that requires time and effort. On this episode of Game Pass or Pass , we dive into Eternal Strands , the new open-world action-adventure from Yellow Brick Games. Inspired by giants like Shadow of the Colossus and Breath of the Wild , Eternal Strands aims big with physics-based combat, elemental manipulation, and full climbing mechanics. But does it deliver on that promise? Well… not exactly. There’s no denying that Eternal Strands has a lot of great ideas. The ability to interact with the world using fire, ice, and telekinesis makes for some cool moments. The combat is flashy, the creatures are huge, and the world is expansive. But after spending time with it, we couldn’t shake the feeling that Eternal Strands is a game that tries to do everything —but never fully develops anything . The climbing is there, but lacks the satisfying challenge of Breath of the Wild . The combat looks cool, but never really evolves beyond flashy moves that lack impact. The world is big, but feels empty and aimless. It’s as if the game has all the right ingredients, but the dish just doesn’t come together in the end. So, is Eternal Strands worth your time, or is it another case of a game being too ambitious for its own good ? Tune in to find out if this one is a Game Pass… or a Pass.…

Ninja Gaiden Black set the standard for high-speed, brutally challenging action games, but Ninja Gaiden 2 Black aimed to take things even further with more weapons, bigger enemies, and an overhauled combat system. But does this sequel refine the formula, or does it stumble under the weight of its own ambitions? In this episode, we break down how Ninja Gaiden 2 Black compares to its legendary predecessor. The combat is faster and bloodier than ever, with a limb dismemberment system that changes how fights play out, forcing you to adjust tactics on the fly. The visuals have seen a clear upgrade, with improved animations and larger environments, but at what cost? The game pushes its engine to the limit, and with that comes some performance struggles and occasional janky camera angles that make certain fights more frustrating than they should be. We also discuss the changes in level design, enemy variety, and difficulty balancing—does Ninja Gaiden 2 Black feel fair, or does it veer into cheap territory? And of course, the biggest question: is this still a must-play today, or does the original Ninja Gaiden Black still reign supreme? Join us as we slash through the highs and lows of this action-packed sequel and decide—should you pass, or is this still worth a run?…

Serious Sam started out as a callback to earlier days of FPS games. When shooters were more simple. Times when Wolfenstein and Doom carried the genre with great level design and fun game play. Serious Sam 4 looks to leave some of that legacy behind but instead bring what it created forward. Unfortunately, due to performance issues on console and weirdly bad level design, Serious Sam 4 lacks a lot of fun. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/game-pass-or-pass/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/game-pass-or-pass/support…

What does a 16 bit SNES callback RPG known as Chained Echoes have to do with TellTales The Walking Dead The Final Season have in common? Absolutely nothing. CHained Echoes is the RPG that hit Game Pass and has created a lot of love from fans of the SNES era JRPG's such as Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy. Will it win over Basher and his growing tiredness of callback games? Cory spent time with The Walking Dead The Final Season from Telltale. WIth the first season of The Walking Dead causing a huge splash it was also the beigging of the end for Telltale as they quickly because a household name that took on so many projects it eventually ended in tragedy. Sometimes a game comes along you weren't expecting. But its even more rare a game comes along that you drop 40 hours into you weren't expecting. Vampire Survivors might not have any vampires but what it does have is one of the most addicting and mysterious rabbit holes of content gaming has ever seen. While its not flashy with its 2d sprites and game play that requires only movement, it's design will keep you playing and tempt you to go just one more one. The phase Doom clone was very prevalent in the 90s. Many different genres and IP took the Doom engine and made their own spin. Even IP like Star Wars got into the mix with Dark Forces. Chorus is a game that deserves more players. Its a game that has brilliance in many areas but also features some maddening tropes in gaming that take the overall experience down a few notches. Flying around and dog fighting in Chorus legitimately might be the best feeling air combat game ever made. Combine this with a visual presentation that is stunning and vast and you would have a game that everyone must play. However, the Ubisoft style mission structure that for whatever reason has become popular with the mainstream gamer rears its head in and brings down the overall package quite a bit. Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising is the prequel to the upcoming Eiyuden Chronicle Hundred Heroes. The successor to the Suikoden. Still with me? Dreamscaper's premise might sound, for the lack of a better word, cringy. You play as a character who is new in town trying to fight her inner demons. These demons include being new in town and not having many friends. As well as suffering from falling into a deep dream state that requires fighting creatures of various descents and types. But to our surprise, Dreamscaper managed to not feel weird or awkward for one minute due to smart writing and a development team who clearly put fun first over trying to force a message. Aliens is a franchise that seems like it should be a no brainer for awesome video game adaptations. There are so many avenues a developer go with the IP considering you could take it in a multitude of different genres. But for whatever reason the amount of quality Aliens games cam be counted on one hand. Aliens Fireteam Elite looks to change that by bringing the franchise into the action survival genre. Fireteam Elite isn't trying to do anything fancy. It knows that players want to combat aliens with the weapons they have seen on the silver screen. Its not about horror but survival and teaming up with a few friends to take down the different types of aliens and enemies along the way is surprisingly a lot of fun. Halo 5 is a perplexing game. It feels as if it was chasing the trends of the FPS genre but somehow still feels like 343 was trying to evolve Halo past it roots. Creating new dynamics in an IP is a scary and daunting task. It takes a lot of trial and error as well as creative minds to evolve while also not destroying the past. Halo 5 is an example of how not to accomplish that goal. The campaign is one that feels like its barely held together. Mixing bad and obtuse story telling with new characters nobody asked for or are interested in seeing ever again. Game play that feels like its evolving what you know and love but placing you in lackluster environments that fail to take advantage of new core designs when fighting boring enemies. Dude, what the hell happened? Halo 4 was the first game in the Halo franchise that didn't come from Bungee. In many ways you can tell from the moment you start controlling Chief in the campaign. Its a tighter experience with less of the grand open levels and a focus on story that goes deeper into characters than before. With new enemies to shoot, new abilities to master and a love story at its heart, Halo 4 cemented itself as the most debated Halo game in the franchise. Call of Duty: Vanguard might be set in WW2 but it certainly doesn't feel like it. Compared to the last game in the WW2 setting, simply titled Call of Duty WW2, Vanguard is more of the fast paced action from Modern Warfare with a World War II skin. However, that really isn't a bad thing. Vanguard features the best aspects of the modern games, like the fast pacing and tight controls, without falling into that older pacing and movement of the era. Featuring an addicting multiplayer filled with plenty of map and a campaign that has some issues but ultimately is totally worth a playthrough, Vanguard is a surpassingly solid Call of Duty. If you are here for zombies however, look away now.
