South African and Lesotho officials have been accused of enabling sex trafficking. The damning 2024 Trafficking in Persons Report released by the US State Department reveals how corrupt officials in both countries are complicit in the sex trafficking of Basotho women into South Africa, allowing the illicit practice to persist with "impunity".
