In this episode, Therese shares a story of how training her dog showed her tons of lessons that are applicable to life and business. It really is the story of stepping into the NEW YOU by dropping your story.

Have you ever had a ‘soul mate’ dog? Therese had that in Finley. A beautiful Carolina dog who sadly was killed. While Finley was wonderful and love in the home, she was a nightmare outside. Therese realized that she was using her dog’s story (Fin had been a rescue, anxious dingo, “wild dog”) as a reason for her behavior. And isn’t that what happens for us in business? We may be telling ourselves a story of why we can’t achieve, or what is interfering with our success.

Trying to help, Therese had been working with other trainers, but who she was being and what she was doing to try to help her dog, wasn’t working! After Finley got killed, Therese wanted her remaining dog Murphy to be a better, happier, more balanced dog. She found a trainer who showed her how to be with her dog and the right tools to use.

Listen to this episode because there are lots of applications for your business in this show!! Therese shares that because of her previous dog Finley’s behavior, she was using that as the measure of what was possible for Murphy. (And Murph has bad behaviors of his own!)

This story so beautifully describes the difference between the trainer having a vision for the dog versus Therese being stuck in the old version of who she thought he could be. The metaphor is a perfect one for how great coaching/mentoring works. We show up with our “stuff.” Our limitations, our failures, our feelings, etc. But a great mentor will look past that and see great potential.

In the 2nd half of the show, Therese speaks about the business applications and how our stories hold us back. It also entails getting the right tools and a way of “being” that is the game-changer. Enjoy this episode and make sure you send Therese a picture of your dog!
