Rand Fishkin, the CEO of Moz co-founded what is today, one of the marketing world’s fastest growing software companies. Based in Seattle, Moz’s focus is on serving professional marketers with analytics and recommendations to improve their web traffic and customer acquisition.
As CEO, Rand is responsible for recruiting and managing the executive team, leading the product/strategic vision and evangelizing better marketing practices, channels, and tactics around the world.
I’ve had the privilege of knowing Rand for a number of years through a mutual friend in the SEO world. I was excited when he graciously hopped on a call to talk all things SEO for the benefit of the entire Empire. In fact, he gave four things that every online business, brand and person should do to truly maintain relevancy in the ever changing world of SEO.
Things got interesting when we began chatting about some previous campaigns like My Super Proposal in which Rand was all set to air a wedding proposal during the Super Bowl. At the last second, the sponsor (which he reveals for one of the first times) pulled out and instead he proposed on a different show – Veronica Mars – his wife’s favorite show. You should see her reaction!
We also touched base on a new adventure he’s working on with Wil Reynolds of SEER – a CEO swap. It was definitely an awesome conversation and I hope you enjoy it.
