Deep Dive from @elreportero | Episode 6 | Emasculated opposition; PAN, PRI, and MC opt to play dead and betray Mexicans
Manage episode 444636933 series 3214379
In Mexico, there is no longer an opposition. It's over. It's dissolved. It's lost.
And nothing benefits Morena more than having a cartoon-like opposition. An emasculated opposition.
This is what has happened with the PAN, with the PRI, and to a certain extent, with Movimiento Ciudadano.
'Alito' Moreno, with the consent of the Electoral Tribunal to remain as leader of the remnants of the PRI, owes Morena a huge favor. Needless to say, he no longer even counts as a reference.
The National Action Party (PAN), in about a month, will be saying goodbye to its failed leader, Marko Cortés, who has done nothing but push this opposition party into a spiral of decline, leaving behind his puppet, Jorge Romero, to continue the legacy of debacles and stupid occurrences.
The case of Movimiento Ciudadano has its own story. Samuel García only reaps setbacks and scandals, Jorge Álvarez Máynez maintains his streak of stubbornness, nonsense, stupidity, idiocy, trivialities, and foolishness for the enjoyment of memes, and practically leaves behind a lone figure who has yet to make any significant mark, which is Pablo Lemus, who is just beginning his term as governor of Jalisco, so it’s still too early to tell if he will become an important or interesting opposition figure. The MC benches in the Chamber of Deputies, and particularly in the Senate, have opted to keep their heads down after the embarrassment that followed the revelation that Samuelito funded Luis Donaldo Colosio Riojas's campaign with public money.
In this way, the PAN, PRI, and MC have become a group of pets that Morena looks at with disdain, tolerating them as company but keeping their leash tight.
It suits Morena to have a cartoonish opposition to legitimize its overwhelming margin of action, as it serves to "legitimize" the appearance of democracy in the eyes of the international community, while in reality, it functions like a Chihuahua dog that makes a lot of noise but serves to disguise Morena as a 'friendly animal lover.'
It suits Morena to have a soft opposition, as it acts as a perfect deterrent for any dissenters. Who in their right mind would dare to threaten to switch to the opposition benches when they are nothing more than rotten plankton in the ocean of stupidity?
Having such a servile, crawling, bootlicking, fawning, cowardly, and submissive opposition demands keeping them happy. Through perks, benefits, and crumbs, Morena positions Bucareli (Interior Ministry) as the source of VIP kibble for the submissive ones until the next elections, calmly knowing they will continue losing 50% of their positions with each cycle.
This opposition is already a corpse rotting in the sun. However, there are still a handful of brave citizens who boldly point fingers at the abuses of power. There are journalists who face censorship from their own newsrooms and draw attention to the abuses, injustices, violations, excesses, overreach, illegality, arbitrariness, and despotism of Morena.
While this happens, what we predicted in this column a few months ago has come true: PAN, PRI, and Movimiento Ciudadano have betrayed their voters with laziness, inaction, and a shameful bowing down to power. They have shown no qualms in betraying the Mexican people.
