The War and Treaty’s Michael and Tanya Trotter grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and Washington, DC, respectively, but both have family roots in the South. They also grew up in the musical traditions of their churches – Tanya in the Black Baptist Church and Michael in the Seventh Day Adventist Church – where they learned the power of song to move people. After becoming a father at a very young age, Michael eventually joined the armed forces and served in Iraq and Germany, where he took up songwriting as a way of dealing with his experiences there. Meanwhile Tanya embarked on a singing and acting career after a breakthrough appearance in Sister Act 2 alongside Whoopi Goldberg and Lauryn Hill. Now, after a long and sometimes traumatic journey, Michael and Tanya are married, touring, winning all sorts of awards, and set to release their fifth album together, and their fourth as The War and Treaty. Sid talks to Michael and Tanya about the new record, Plus One , as well as their collaboration with Miranda Lambert, what it was like to record at FAME studios in Muscle Shoals, and how they’re blending country, soul, gospel, and R&B. In this sermon on Revelation 14:14-20, we explore John’s vivid vision of two distinct harvests—the gathering of the righteous and the crushing of the wicked in the great winepress of God’s wrath. This passage offers a sobering look at God’s coming judgment, the certainty of His justice, and the hope for those who are in Christ. You’ll discover how the imagery of the harvest connects deeply with Old Testament prophecy and how it challenges us today to examine our hearts, live in light of Christ’s return, and rest in God’s ultimate justice. This is a call to consider where we stand: are we part of the wheat gathered into God’s barn, or are we destined for the winepress of His wrath? 📖 Scripture Reference: Revelation 14:14-20 ✝️Sermon Points: 📌 The Certainty of Judgment – Christ comes with authority to bring the final harvest. 📌 The Gathering of the Righteous – A harvest of hope for those found in Christ. 📌 The Justice of God Upon the Wicked – The winepress of God’s wrath poured out in judgment. But behind it all is Satan, the deceiver, working through false authority to lead people astray. The early church faced the temptation to bow to Rome, just as we face pressures today to conform to the world’s standards. This sermon challenges us to stand firm in Christ, refusing to worship the counterfeit king and instead remaining faithful to the true King, Jesus Christ. 🔹 Sermon Points: 1️⃣ The Beastly Power of Idolatrous Empire – How earthly powers seek worship and demand allegiance. 2️⃣ False Prophets and Deceptive Allegiance – How false religion legitimizes worldly authority and deceives people. 3️⃣ The Mark of the Beast vs. The Seal of God – Understanding what it truly means to be marked by Christ. 🔹 About Our Church:We are a Confessional Presbyterian and Reformed church committed to Christ-centered preaching and scriptural fidelity.
