One would think that studying history also involves simply memorizing dates, like the founding date of the University of Utrecht, March 26, 1636. With research of the seventeenth century, however, this is a lot less simple than it looks: there were two calendars with differing dates in wide usage, and this sometimes makes for an interesting riddle where dates are concerned. With the question why the University of Utrecht was founded on March 26, 1636, this is no different. In this English bonus episode, Robin dives into the context of the seventeenth century, the run-up to the founding of Utrecht’s Athenaeum Illustre and the University, and the confusing conundrum of Easter in two calendars.
Je zou denken dat het bestuderen van de geschiedenis ook gaat over het onthouden van jaartallen, zoals de stichtingsdatum van de Universiteit Utrecht, 26 maart 1636.
