Kit Marie is joined by Sam and Simon Fox to chat about science communication, school trips, Essex origins, the amazing Youth STEMM Award, and more! Dr Samantha Fox is a scientist and social entrepreneur. She spent many years hanging out with plants at The John Innes Centre, an independent, international centre of excellence in plant science, genetics and microbiology. These days she spends most of her time running the Youth STEMM Award CIC, a skills award she co-founded (with Simon), to support and inspire the next generation into Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Medicine (STEMM). She’s on a mission to make sure everyone, no matter their background, gets a chance to explore STEMM and consider if a career in STEMM could be for them. Dr Simon Fox is currently Deputy Principal at East Norfolk Sixth Form College, and co-founder of the Youth STEMM Award CIC, a skills award to support and inspire young people into science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine. After undertaking his PhD at the John Innes Centre he trained as a teacher at UEA, has worked in 5 schools and colleges across Norfolk and been in educational leadership for over 15 years, including five as Principal of a Norfolk secondary school. He has been heavily involved in STEMM outreach throughout his career, and is a champion of increasing diversity and representation in the workforce.
