Pastor Laura continued our current series this week called Wisdom: A Study in Proverbs! While King Solomon was not perfect (he didn’t even always take his own advice!) he did record an incredible collection of wisdom in the book of Proverbs. This wisdom is timeless; it was relevant thousands of years ago and it is relevant today. The specifics may have changed, but the principles in Proverbs are still solid and sound advice for you and me! This week we focused on what it looks like to be a good friend!
Here are 2 important observations I wanted to highlight in regards to the book of Proverbs:
- Proverbs contains general principles about how life should work.
- Proverbs contains examples of foolish vs. wise behavior. (Not necessarily focusing on the morality of right vs wrong)
Solomon has a lot to say about our friendship, and here are 5 key characteristics of being a good friend:
- Good friends are good listeners!
- Good friends value honesty!
- Good friends value loyalty!
- Good friends don't stir up trouble!
- A good friend is kind even to their enemies!
Bottom Line: We should be the kind of friend we want to have.
