With such strong cultural influences, when it comes to our health, what really matters and what should we be focusing on? This podcast delves into our psyches and exposes unhealthy thoughts and behaviors around weight and body image. It’s time we stop self-shaming and shaming others based on unrealistic and cookie-cutter standards! Where do these crazy ideas come from?

When CC was feeling her best the scale was up but she had a tumor! They told her not to lose weight during cancer treatment, so she lost 40 pounds! Not on purpose obviously. But, having gone up and down in weight over the years, and finally giving up on the number a few years before; this was quite the mindfuck! So now what happens?

Many of us are guilty of watching the scoreboard instead of the game, in this case, watching the scale instead of our life. The numbers on the scale are only one small indicator of good health. We need to be aware of all of the indicators, this is why watching the scale is a mindfuck.

Even though Doc weighs more than people would think, she has a reputation as someone who can eat anything she wants and stay slender. But behind the scenes one could say she has an unhealthy relationship with the scale, weighing in each day to make sure the numbers are within her personal acceptable range. When the numbers go up, she’s harder on herself than she should be. She always says she does not want to buy a new wardrobe, which begs the question, is it about money or weight?

Of course, it's important to be healthy! It's also important to not feel deprived or to shame yourself into "good behavior". How do we (all) change the way we see ourselves and be in tune enough with our bodies to listen to what they truly need and want on a day-to-day basis, and not be influenced by unrealistic archetypes?
