Welcome to Art Beat Radio! Jesus: This episode is brought to you by CECA! Michael: Today, we’re talking about Latin music! Andrea: Cool! Jesus: Sharing our favorite songs, and sharing an original song. Alexa: First up! We are talking about Banda Music. It’s originally from Mexico! Banda has trumpets, clarinet, horns, guitar, a sousaphone and percussion, and many more. There’s also usually a singer. Banda groups are made up of a lot of musicians. Jesus: Wow! That’s so cool! PJ: Here’s one of our favorite Banda songs: Los Tucanes de Tijuana By La Chona https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULxcmMgsxf4 Jesus: Next up on our list, we’re talking about samba! Alexa: Samba originated in Brasil. It is the ballroom dance of Brasil. Samba is the popular music played at carnival. PJ: Here’s one of our favorite samba songs: It’s called “Magalenha” by Sergio Mendez https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijnujobdJ4c Alexa: The next genre of Latin music is Salsa. Salsa music is originally from Cuba! It became popular in the 1920s Salsa music got its name because of how hot n’ spicy it is, just like the food.
