People find many ways to get things off their chest. Some go to therapy, phone a friend, or talk to a priest in a confessional booth. In today’s society, another avenue is available right at our fingertips. Literally. But when is it too much? Is TMI even considered anymore? Or is the general consensus amongst the social media world that if you’re a known person, regardless of your level of celebrity, your personal business must be told as well?
Believe it or not, it was 10 years ago when a “billion dollars on the elevator” was recorded. For those who lived under a rock for the last decade, the incident referenced included Beyoncé, Jay-Z, and Solange. And guess what? A decade later and we still don’t actually know what happened in the elevator and why. For many, this is the ultimate level of dis region. Even when it’s recorded, nothing is to be spoken. Despite sealed lips, Beyoncé and her family continue to maintain their status without missing a beat. Why don’t others follow suit?
In 2023, another former social media phenomenon became a new mother to a son in January then a daughter in December. And guess what? The general public knew nothing of the pregnancies nor births until announced. Imagine your mom once being the biggest name in reality TV, paparazzi chases and social media posts, not a word spoken about babies until she was ready. Congrats to Paris Hilton for shaking off the paps and managing to live a normal life as normal as a millionaire heiress can.
So if some of the largest names in today’s society can manage to keep their business private, why is it so many others, famous and not, choose to use social media as their sounding boards for every life event. Whether announcements of sobriety, illness, betrayal, or obsession, so many seem to be doing it for the gram. Is this a sign of something bigger? Or is it just trivial social media postings?
How others choose to live and post their lives is their own business and we’re not in the business to mind other people’s. But of course we have an opinion like always. Check out Episode 156 and join the conversation. Leave a comment, like, and share!
