This week's podcast was supposed to be Christian chatting with the Doctor Who Companion's Philip Bates about Doctor Who Series 15... and then Newsround published a brief chat with Russell T Davies. Suddenly, we had to talk about the possibility that Doctor Who Series 15 might be the last, certainly as far as the current production setup is concerned, and maybe longer term, too. This week, Christian Cawley and James McLean mull over the impact of the single take shot in new Netflix drama Adolescence . Single takes, also known as one-shots and continuous shots, have appeared in many movies and TV shows, from Marvel's Daredevil to Alfred Hitchcock's Rope to Orson Welles' Touch of Evil , and many other besides. It has been technically difficult to achieve, especially for British TV, but we wonder if its employment in this series might inspire similar approaches from directors. Oddly, we also talk about Thomas the Tank Engine 's geography, and the 1986 sequel to Alien , James Cameron's Aliens . Hello! This is our brand new podcast, which not only talks about James Bond, but also supports Podcasthon. James McLean and Christian Cawley reconvene this week to discuss the events surrounding Amazon's purchase of Eon , and the resulting rumours. While we unsurprisingly dwell on the tempting notion of Pierce Brosnan returning as an older James Bond, there is also time to discuss the world of Bond spin-offs. Because, ladies and gentlemen, you may not know this, but we *have* been here before... Did you know, all our podcasts launch earlier on Patreon? Join us free at www.patreon.com/kasterborous , where you’ll also find podcasts with extra material! For example, the Patreon version of this edition has five minutes worth of extra material. What is the Podcasthon? James and Christian were approached to take part in the Podcasthon some weeks ago, and thought it was a great thing to do. Each podcast taking part selects a charity (ours is CentrePoint), and records a podcast specifically for the event. The Podcasthon team then use social media to spot our tagging of the podcast, and share it, and the drive raises awareness of all the charities selected by the podcasters. Originally a French-language "athon", the Podcasthon is being done by hundreds of podcasts this year, and we're in very esteemed company, so we've tried to behave. As this is a special podcast, the Spotify/Apple version will be identical this week. A little later than usual, our weekly podcast features Christian Cawley exploring the latest in classic TV news, publications, and film. This week, we look at Cutaway Comics' already funded Indiegogo campaign for the second phase of its Doctor Who-adjacent Gods and Monsters series. There is also news of the AI Michael Parkinson (we jest not) and some remastered classic Sherlock Holmes movies from the Cricklewood days. Oh, and we've also managed to shoehorn more Led Zeppelin news into proceedings. Hi! This week's podcast covers the confusion over Doctor Who Series 16, take a look at the upcoming Beatles documentary, and tell you about a missing episode of Thunderbirds, an unused edit, that has been rediscovered... Looking at the steady stream of newly recovered TV shows and movies long thought "lost" is pretty interesting right now. Maybe we've seen the last Doctor Who discovery, maybe not, but archive media is continuing to be a theme of the weekly podcast. This week's episode once again features Christian Cawley hosting solo, and went out first on Patreon . We've got additional, supplemental editions of the show planned, with interviews already recorded, and a giveaway coming up too. Shownotes What's happening with Doctor Who series 16? We've had a few weeks' rest and recuperation but we're now back with a rare pleasure: former Doctor Who producer Philip Hinchcliffe (1974-1977)! There is a bit of a story behind this one. Back in 2018, Gareth Kavanagh invited James McLean and Christian Cawley to do some live podcasting and panel interviews at the VworpCon event, held at the PrintWorks in Manchester. Philip Hinchcliffe was supposed to be one of several guests on a panel discussing the TARDIS and its evolution throughout Doctor Who's history, but on the day the dice didn't roll quite as planned. As a result, James ended up with just Philip Hinchcliffe, along with a few technical challenges. However, thanks to AI audio fixes and judicious editing by Christian, we've ended up with quite an interesting - and rare - chat with Philip, who gives some quite unique answers and stories on a topic that he doesn't usually get drawn on. Enjoy! Over the past few years, we've had the chance to attend all manner of Doctor Who events. It's fair to say that the whole world of conventions and interactive experiences has evolved considerably. From Dimensions 2005 to VworpCon in 2018, and The Crash of the Elysium to Escape Hunt: A Dalek Awakens, we've been very fortunate to have attended a whole host of different events. They have covered different sizes of venues, different types of guests, and offered a wealth of differing experiences. This week, Christian Cawley and James McLean discuss how Doctor Who events have evolved over the decades. We also discuss A Dalek Awakens, an escape room experience in Norwich, which James was fortunate enough to visit recently.
