Steve Preston is the CEO of Goodwill Industries. Though Goodwill is known for big stores where people can donate clothes and buy them secondhand, those stores are just the first level of what Goodwill Industries are about. Those stores fund an international organization that provides job training, employment placement services and other community-based programs for people who face barriers in their employment. Steve joins Jay to discuss the ways Goodwill Industries support veterans and individuals who lack job experience, an education, or face employment challenges, such as those people who are formerly incarcerated. “If nothing else, maybe this pulls us together stronger than ever before. And we come out the other side of it completely different. Changed in a way we might not have been otherwise. I think that this could be important for the next stage of human evolution and change” In this thought-provoking episode of Bounce Back Stronger , Donna Ferris sits down with author and relationship expert Crystal Jackson to explore the cultural pressures shaping women's lives—from the "decentering men" movement to the relentless media push for consumerism. Crystal dives into how societal expectations, patriarchal norms, and the subconscious desire to be "chosen" impact women's self-worth and relationships. Together, they unpack the shift from external validation to self-empowerment, the roots of "Pick Me" culture (hello, Grey’s Anatomy fans), overconsumption, and how women can reclaim their narrative by focusing on their own needs, goals, and identities—outside of the male gaze. Whether you’re navigating dating, healing from a breakup, or simply craving more autonomy in your life, this conversation offers insightful strategies for self-prioritization and authentic living. “Taking the road less traveled is really challenging but can be worth it...I've had a lot of very deep low points that I don't want to gloss over when I talk about my life because it might sound like one big adventure, but it doesn't always feel that way when you're living in it. But at the same time, I do think that making some unconventional decisions has allowed me to get closer to what's right for me. And I don't feel like I've taken a lot of wrong turns because I haven't done anything that isn’t authentic to who I am, and that's a real gift.” In this episode of Bounce Back Stronger , host Donna Ferris sits down with Zanny Merullo Steffgen, a freelance writer and travel enthusiast who has charted her own unique path in life. Zanny opens up about overcoming the challenges of living with cystic fibrosis, choosing travel and work over college, and finding her voice through writing. Jenny shares her personal journey through loss, how she found her purpose in helping other widowed parents, and the invaluable lessons she’s learned along the way.
