In most cases, the General and Academic Training Writing examinations are scored on the same scale. While the IELTS Academic Writing test includes topics appropriate for undergraduate and graduate students, the IELTS General Training module includes excerpts from books, magazines, notices, company handbooks, and guidelines that you are likely to encounter on a daily basis in an English-speaking environment. Duration of the test: 60 minutes Academic IELTS Writing Test Format There are two sections to this story. Task 1 and Task 2 responses should be written in a formal, semi-formal, or neutral tone. Task 1: You'll be given a graph, table, chart, or diagram and asked to summarise and describe the data in your own words. You can be requested to compare and contrast facts, describe the stages of a process, describe an object, or explain how something works. Task 2: Write an essay in response to a point of view, an argument, or an issue. Task 2 contributes twice as much to the Writing score as Task 1. Test takers starting undergraduate or postgraduate courses or pursuing professional registration will find the problems discussed to be of general interest, suited for, and easily comprehended. Format of the IELTS Writing Test — General Training There are two sections to this story. The topics are interesting to a wide range of people. Task 1: You are given a circumstance in which you must write a letter to someone in order to obtain information or to explain the current situation. The letter might be written in a personal, semi-formal, or official tone. Task 2: Write an essay in response to a point of view, an argument, or an issue. In comparison to the Academic Writing Task 2 essay, the essay might be less formal in tone and have a more personal reaction. Task 2 contributes twice as much to the Writing score as Task 1. IELTS Writing Test Helpful Hints Remember that the examiners are assessing you on your expression as you type your responses. There are no correct or incorrect replies. Examine the questions thoroughly to ensure that you've addressed all aspects of the question. Remember to stay within the word count. You will lose marks if you write less than 150 words in Task 1 or less than 250 words in Task 2. Always write your responses in your native tongue. You will not be given any points if you utilise the exact words from the question. Never use bullets in your answers; instead, write them out completely. Divide your main points into separate paragraphs. This demonstrates to the examiner your ability to organise your points. Don't get caught up in writing long, intricate responses. Write clearly, coherently, and effectively organise your thoughts. Make sure your grammar is flawless. You will have to pick and compare relevant information from data presented in a graph, table, or diagram when performing Academic Writing Task 1. Never copy the text from the question into the introduction. Use your own words whenever possible. The essay is the second task in the Academic Writing test. Always think about how you want your essay to be structured before you start writing. A good introduction, supporting arguments, and real-life examples should all be included, followed by a conclusion. Task 2 gives you 40 minutes to complete your essay. Always set aside five minutes to plan your answer before you begin writing, and another five minutes to check for errors at the end. Keep the last paragraph of your essay for a valid conclusion to all of the points you've made in the answer. It's important to distinguish between singular and plural nouns. Always double-check your responses to avoid making this common blunder. It's important to remember that spelling is everything. In the IELTS exam, standard American, British, and Australian spellings are all allowed.
