February 16 - Digital Appetite Main Idea: In the first temptation, Jesus is tempted to turn stones into bread. He’s “click baited.” He’s hungry and this temptation speaks to the appetite we all have for things that quickly satisfy our impulses. Technology is designed to make us into captive consumers enslaved to being able to get what we want as soon as we want it. It tempts us to leapfrog God and our dependence upon God. Jesus says he lives on his Father’s word. We have to remember that technology cannot meet our profound needs. We resist this by finding fulfillment and contentment in God’s provision and our identity in Christ. Trusting that God is our ultimate need fulfiller. Ultimately, John’s message is one of joy. We are called to collectively build and repair the structures of our society; we are called to be kin-dom builders. Wherever we build, God is there. What we build should be a place with a large table and room for all. N.T. Wright talks about what we build that is oriented toward the Kingdom of God will last.
