Those stores fund an international organization that provides job training, employment placement services and other community-based programs for people who face barriers in their employment. Steve joins Jay to discuss the ways Goodwill Industries support veterans and individuals who lack job experience, an education, or face employment challenges, such as those people who are formerly incarcerated. In this episode Jill Lubienski and Dr Peter Jakob discuss the wider applications of NVR, focusing on areas of practice not originally considered within the NVR family approach developed by Haim Omer. Discussion includes how NVR could be used for example in situations where a young person refuses to comply with diabetic medication; in communities where there is gang-related violence; how practitioners might utilise imaginary methods with siblings to resist escalation; and NVR practices in wider systemic contexts around the family. Many of our clients are women in situations of distress, who are left alone to cope in often dangerous family situations and then frequently blamed by agencies and others for not being 'good enough' parents. Peter and Jill explore NVR's lack of consideration as a whole of issues of gender and violence. They discuss how this lack of a feminist sensibility has left women exposed and their struggles underappreciated and invalidated when the lens of gender is not taken into account in the NVR work.
