The War and Treaty’s Michael and Tanya Trotter grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and Washington, DC, respectively, but both have family roots in the South. They also grew up in the musical traditions of their churches – Tanya in the Black Baptist Church and Michael in the Seventh Day Adventist Church – where they learned the power of song to move people. After becoming a father at a very young age, Michael eventually joined the armed forces and served in Iraq and Germany, where he took up songwriting as a way of dealing with his experiences there. Meanwhile Tanya embarked on a singing and acting career after a breakthrough appearance in Sister Act 2 alongside Whoopi Goldberg and Lauryn Hill. Now, after a long and sometimes traumatic journey, Michael and Tanya are married, touring, winning all sorts of awards, and set to release their fifth album together, and their fourth as The War and Treaty. Sid talks to Michael and Tanya about the new record, Plus One , as well as their collaboration with Miranda Lambert, what it was like to record at FAME studios in Muscle Shoals, and how they’re blending country, soul, gospel, and R&B. Sup dawgs. Long time no see. Today we've got a special one-off for ya's, with popular indy/fantasy author and podcaster DREW HAYES stopping into The Hut for a Q&A and filling in for the random, meandering nonsense conversations that are typically fulfilled by Nick. But Nick couldn't come because he was playing Magic The Gathering tonight, or something. Nick's really good at Magic The Gathering. What was I saying? OH, RIGHT. Drew Hayes is a good friend of our fearless leader, Robert Bevan, and has a new book coming out, and then another new book coming out after that. It's sort of his thing. CHECK OUT ALL HIS STUFF, he's a super cool guy and a great indy author. Plus he runs a D&D campaign via podcast called Authors & Dragons with all fantasy authors, it's awesome. AND BEVAN'S ON IT TOO! http://www.drewhayesnovels.com/ https://www.authorsanddragons.com/ Find the show on Facebook or Twitter @chickenhutpod Check out the official C&C Facebook group to hang out with other Failures Buy shit from the author, Robert Bevan, http://www.caverns-and-creatures.com/…
Today...yeah. We wrap up Critical Failures VI, and we are All. Over. The. Place. Even by our standards. It's like when you're in middle school and it's the last day before summer vacation. BUT we do in fact discuss the last third of the book. And a bunch of other stuff. To name a few: Satanism, Guns N Roses, Podbean's Tech Support, Tracksuits, why Nick hates Locks of Love, Android vs iPhone, and that's just the first ten minutes, guys. Tackling the second third of CF VI. Today we're joined by my ex-best friend, now NICK'S *NEW* best friend/bromance, Ken! All three of us try to keep from going off the rails TOO-too hard. But let's be real, bullshit is what we do best. We talk Superbowl, pro wrestling, gambling, and sneak in a tiny bit of Caverns & Creatures, too. Oh, and Nick goes HAM on rabid Harry Potter fans. It gets...intense. AND WE'RE BAAAAAAAAAAAAACK! It's like riding a bike. If bikes were books about dick and fart jokes. Today we crack open Critical Failures VI: The Good, The Bad, & The Neutral. With an extra PHAT helping of nonsense, on account'a how long we've been away. We missed you Failures. We're like the absentee dad who just wanders in and out of your lives at random to ease our own guilty consciences. OR not. One of the two. It's good to be back. PS- we DID attempt to find a guest to be on today's show, but PEOPLE BE BIZZAY, and this was the only time we could find for Nick and I to record. SOON THOUGH. Or not. One of the two. Today on the show we break down episode four of Haunting of Hill House entitled "A Twin Thing" plus get really hung up on what our favorite Ben Stiller movies are, for some stupid reason? Oh and get really misty eyed over the death of Philip Seymour Hoffman. The man was a national treasure. Deal with it. OH AND MOLLY JOINS THE FIVE TIMERS CLUB! HOOAH! This episode we are joined by none other than the man, the myth, the pastry kink fetishist- CRITICAL FAILURES AUTHOR ROBERT BEVAN! We have a good time chatting about the current state of CF7, the Audible edition of CF6, the video game, a possible TV show adaptation, and how excited our fearless leader is to be on Molly's revised celebrity crush list. Bevan also sticks around to break down The Haunting of Hill House episode 3, "Touch". Molly gets a promotion. Kind of. And we cover The Haunting of Hill House Episode 2 entitled "Open Casket". Lot of butt stuff this episode. I have no idea why. Who are we kidding. Yes I do. GUESS WHAT FELLOW HEATHENS? WE'RE BACK! Call it "Season 2" of The Chicken Hut. Call it whatever you want, just don't call it "Not going to listen to this sh1t." MOLLY rejoins the show to tackle the first of what we hope is the ENTIRE run of episodes from Netflix's incredible new horror series "The Haunting of Hill House". Today we dive into episode 1, "Steven Sees a Ghost" and talk about all the sibling character introductions. There's also some really unexpected, semi-erotic, but also deeply uncomfortable conversation about severed cat heads with an arbitrarily seductive musical accompaniment. You just have to listen, folks. https://www.facebook.com/demilked/videos/310529849746953/ Find the show on Facebook or Twitter @chickenhutpod Check out the official C&C Facebook group to hang out with other Failures Buy shit from the author, Robert Bevan, http://www.caverns-and-creatures.com/…
THIS IS IT, GUYS! We finish the remainder of the currently available Critical Failures main-series content (or what's available on Audible, anyway, since that's about half our audience.) We do some good BS'ing as per usual, give our final thoughts on CFV (spoiler alert, it's both of our last favorite in the series to-date,) and talk about the future of the show. This episode feels like something of a season-finale of sorts. Oh, we also talk about why the lead singer of Creed is batsh!t crazy, the importance of taking good naps, and if you ever had an insatiable desire to hear what Noah sounds like with bronchitis, WELL HAVE WE GOT THE SHOW FOR YOU! So buckle up, Failures. It's our last big show until CF6! This week, we (barely try to) make excuses for the episode being late, and talk about The Nun (skip to 10:00 to avoid spoilers. I REMEMBERED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) We also discuss how amazing it is to be a Lions fan. Not really, but it is a good week for us. E-mail discussion finally goes down for real. And then we cover the rest of the characters up to chapter 25 who were left out of last week's All Kat/All The Time marathon. Next episode we'll finish off CFV and then......................see where we go from there. So we realized last episode we barely mentioned Kat. Which sucks. Cause Kat is awesome. So today we're going to remedy that by talking ALL KAT, ALL THE TIME (other than our usual beginning-of-the-show BS, which includes a few brief plugs for our non-Chicken Hut projects.) Covering Katherine's journey through the first 25 chapters of Critical Failures V. We also have a post-mortem of Wererat-Gate. OH, and we tease an e-mail segment with Molly...which (spoiler alert) doesn't wind up happening. We're joined once again today by Molly.............OR ARE WE? Time to crack open book five in the main series after a brief short-story interlude. I honestly don't remember half the crap we talked about in this episode, because normally I listen to them again before I publish them. But today is football. So I guess if you want to hear all the ridiculousness, you'll just have to hear it for yourself. I think we cover roughly a third of CF5. With some random jumps forward and backwards as the conversation flows. As Tim would say, "SURPRISE MOTHER EFFERS!" Time to break from convention and try something new. This week the amazing woman I tricked into marrying me JOINS THE CHICKEN HUT as our first guest host! Nick is presumably on a milk carton somewhere. Just kidding, he's just busy. So today Molly and I discuss having read the first in the short story collections, Cave of the Kobolds from D6. We also dig in to the handful of listener e-mails we've gotten (chickenhutpodcast@gmail.com). The majority of which were submitted by our dedicated fan Stevey Love (as he's been dubbed...........by me.) Don't worry, if we didn't read your e-mail today, it'll be on the next show, I PROMISE! Well...ok, maybe not promise. But I strongly state it with a high degree of confidence. I rolled a 17 "Read E-mail Next Time" will save. Nick manages to remain conscious for an entire episode this week as we wrap-up Critical Failures IV. Predictions are a little wonky because we've actually already started reading CV V by the time we recorded this episode. But there's still fun to be had with the return of Nickstradamus. JOIN US ON THIS MAGICAL JOURNEY AS WE BREAK DOWN THE ARRIVAL OF OUR LORD & SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST. AKA The New God, AKA The Pillsbury Doughboy, AKA The Pillsburgh Doughchild. You guys for real. The end of book IV is banana pancakes bonkers. Don't miss thie episode. Or do. I don't really care, TBH. But don't. IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST, RATE & REVIEW OUR SHOW! Diving deep (so deep, you guys,) into the middle section of Critical Failures IV: The Phantom Pinas. So this is a bit of a weird one from a production standpoint, see if you can spot the extremely subtle, not at all horrendously obvious point at which we take a break in the recording. It's like Where's Waldo only ten million times harder (and by harder I mean as obvious as the broad side of a barn.) But yeah. It's still a good episode. Cause c'mon. They're all good. IT'S THE CHICKEN HUT! RATE & REVIEW THE SHOW, FAILURES. Who are we kidding. We literally call our fans failures. We'll keep expectations low.
